VICTORIAN COUNTRY CUP
The 2011 Victorian Country Cup will be hosted by Twin Cities Tenpin Bowl/Wodonga Tenpin Bowling Association on the weekend of March 5th, 6th & 7th.
The Victorian Country Cup was first contested in 1981 at Warrnambool, when played over one round. Eight Associations competed for a Perpetual Cup for the overall winners. The eight original associations were Albury/Wodonga, Ballarat, Bendigo, Colac, Geelong, Latrobe Valley, Shepparton and Warrnambool.
Sale joined the Victorian Country Cup in 1983 and Mildura in 1985. Ovens and Murray Tenpin Bowling Association (now Wodonga Tenpin Bowling Association) joined in 2000.
Two new teams were added in 2001 – Sale & District and Bairnsdale with Bairnsdale only bowling this event until 2003.
In 2009 the Victorian Country Cup was reduced to ten teams with the closure of Sale Bowl.
Three perfect “300’s” have been bowled in the Victorian country Cup’s 30 year history. The first in 2000 by Jason Motta from Latrobe Valley, the second in 2009 by Josh Alvisse from Geelong and the third by Kevin Wilkins representing Shepparton in 2010.
SENIOR SHIELD
Senior Shield commenced in 1994 and is for the over 45’s. It is a scratch teams event for all Victorian Country Tenpin Bowling Associations (VCTBA). Each team comprises 4 players and it is one full round played over two days in November.
In all there are three divisions being an Overall Division along with a Men’s & Women’s Division.
The first Senior Shield was bowled in Ballarat with the host Association winning both the Overall and the Women’s Division. Colac Men’s were victorious in their division in this inaugural event. Since its’ inception Geelong and Colac have had the most win taking the Overall division on four occasions each.
EMERSON SHIELD
The Emerson Shield is a scratch teams’ event for Goldpin Victoria centres. The inaugural event was held in 2001 at the Ed Fleming Lanes in Mooroolbark with 9 teams bowling (plus a bye).
In 2007, 18 teams competed for a place in the ten team final through three Zone Finals (Northern Zone, Western Zone and Eastern Zone) and a repechage final.
A format change was introduced for 2008 and 2009 with just two Zones competing – Northern and Southern The top five teams from each Zone contests the final of the Emerson Shield each year at the end of November. There are separate divisions for Men and Women.
